- 1 Barack Obama impersonator
- 1 dark business suit
- 1 Spider-man costume
- 1 Anansi book
- 1 black male drummer
- 1 bucket or other container for collecting money
- 1 bucket to use as a seat
- 1 busy sidewalk in a predominantly black neighborhood
- other props as desired
Ask the Barack Obama impersonator to put on the suit, then put the Spider-man costume on over it. Ask the drummer to set up on the sidewalk with the money collection bucket and begin to play.
When a crowd begins to gather, ask the Obama impersonator to turn the other bucket upside down and sit near the drummer. Dressed in the Spider-Man costume, the impersonator begins to read the Anansi book using Obama’s voice and mannerisms. The drummer should play softer, so that the story can be heard.
As the story progresses, the impersonator should begins to tell it in the first person. He should also slowly peel away the Spider-Man head covering and/or other parts of the costume. By the end of the story, he should have stripped away most or all of the costume to reveal an Anansi-like man dressed in everyday clothes.
